Astana International Forum Expands Cooperation with the United Nations

In a new Memorandum of Understanding, Zhandos Imanaliyev, the Executive Director of the Astana International Forum, and Michaela Friberg-Storey, the UN Resident Coordinator in the Republic of Kazakhstan, agreed to provide each other with mutual support on regional and global issues.  

The agreement states the UN’s intention to actively promote the Astana International Forum with its extensive network. The UN will also contribute to the next edition on June 13-14, 2024, in Astana. 

The high-level event - whose theme is “Empowering People, Uniting Nations: Building a Better World Together” - will be held under the chairmanship of the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Kassym-Jomart Tokayev.

Discussions will focus on solutions to regional and global challenges.

 

In June 2023, for its inaugural edition, the Astana International Forum welcomed distinguished guests such as HH Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, the Emir of Qatar; HE Sadyr Zhaparov, President of the Kyrgyz Republic; HE Željka Cvijanović, Chairwoman of the Presidium of Bosnia and Herzegovina; HE Abdulla Aripov, Prime Minister of the Republic of Uzbekistan, and leaders from many international organizations, including the IMF, WTO, ADB, EBRD, OSCE, UNESCO, and SCO. The UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres addressed the Forum virtually.

AIF2023 also featured top executives from international corporations as well as academics and expert analysts.
